MARINER'S PRIZE
“Further, the Foundation supports Norwegian seafarers by awarding
a Mariner’s Prize to persons who have made a significant contribution
to Norwegian mariners and seafarers.”

- 2010 (AWARDED ON 8 APRIL 2011):
Eilert Munch Lund (of Bergen/Nærsnes) for a serial documental
movies regarding the Norwegian seaman and his family, illustrating life
at sea and at home - in peace as well as wartime, in our time as well
as in the past (Vår Maritime Kulturarv /”Our Maritime Cultural
Heritage”).
- 2009 (AWARDED ON 8 APRIL 2010):
Ola Sætren (of Hornindal, Norway/Dunkerque) for 50 years of outstanding
commitment and personal assistance to Norwegian mariners. “No
task to great, no task too small”.
- 2008 (AWARDED ON 31 MARCH 2009):
Cruise ship masters Eigil Eriksen (of Trondheim) and Svein Pettersen
(of Skodje) for their personal commitment to the creation of a well-integrated,
safe and rewarding working environment for thousands of seafarers.
- 2007 (AWARDED on 8 APRIL 2008):
Norwegian-American Leif Eric Griffin (of Miami) for his longstanding
commitment to and unstinting efforts on behalf of seafarers in Florida.
- 2006 (AWARDED ON 18 DECEMBER 2006):
Kaare André Kopperud (of Oslo) in recognition of a lifetime of
unceasing commitment to, and work on behalf of, Norwegian mariners and
the seafaring profession.
- 2005 (NO AWARD FOR THIS YEAR)
- 2004 (AWARDED ON 3 MAY 2005):
Fishing Boat Skipper Geir Roger Benonisen of Sørvågen in
the Lofoten Islands for rescuing 30 passengers and one crew member when
the ”Lofotfjord 2” ran aground on 17 December 2004.
- 2003 (NO AWARD FOR THIS YEAR)
- 2002 (AWARDED ON 8 APRIL 2003):
The crew of the rescue vessel RS ”Erik Bye”: Ship’s
Master Robert Aksel Jakobsen (of Stokmarknes), First Mate Alfred Finstad
Aastrøm (of Steinkjær), Engineer Yngve Iversen (of Brønnøysund)
and Second Engineer Ronny Pedersen (of Skedsmokorset) in recognition
of their seamanship in the rescue of former Rescue Vessel Skipper Charles
Klinge in 2002.
- 2001 (AWARDED ON 13 DECEMBER 2001):
Captain Arne Rinnan, following the rescue action by the M/S ”Tampa”
in Australian waters in 2001 (438 refugees rescued from a sinking vessel).
